Boy, it really pays to read all the messages. Even when it pertains
to a problem or car you don't have. You never know what useful bits
of info you might come up with.

Okay. When I had my car inspected when I bought it, the mechanic
pointed out a small gasket leak. No big deal, I had one on a Jetta I
used to drive. Don't think I ever fixed it and it never gave me any
problems. The point is, I asked him why these cars (VW's and Audi's)
seemed to have this problem. He stated that European car makers use
cork gaskets rather than neoprene. I said, "When you're replacing
it, why not put in a neoprene gasket?" "Because they don't make them
for these cars."

Hmmmmmmm. From your post I would say this wasn't true. So, what
make of gasket can I use and where can I find one? And is replacing
one yourself as easy as it would appear? Or are there some things I
should know about. TIA
