I think it was becouse of lack of safety measures to keep the
spectators out of the way. Drivers like Walter Rohr or Hannu
Mikkola know exacty how to handle understeer in their cars.
The top problem for Audi as well was lack of space under the hood for
quick repairs as well as cabin temperatures due to the front mounted
engine.
