86 4000 CSQ - brakes and exhaust

Car: 1986 Audi 4000 CS Quattro
Miles: 140,000 +/-

Two questions. I just put on new brake pads on the front, and they
were VERY, VERY, *VERY* tight. Once I got them on, the front wheels
would hardly move. I've never had them that bad. I could only keep
the car in 1st, since trying to shift allowed the car to almost come
to a stop. (And this is with all 4 wheels trying to turn!) The pads
I've gotten before have always been kindof tight, but never like
this. Everything's fine now - it just took a few minutes of driving
to eat some of the pad off and open some room.

Question - Is the place I'm getting the pads from making them
                    wrong? (ABC Auto in NJ)

Which pads should I get? ((Mailorder) I don't
think I will ever get them from ABC again)

Second - My muffler is going yet again. This is the second one I've
gotten, and they don't seem to last more then a year. Tops. I ordered
the complete (cat back) system from Blaufergnugen! two years ago.
Almost one year later (it comes with a 1 yr. warren) the rear muffler
goes. I call them up, they send me a new one, I send the old back.
Fine. Now the muffler is going again. (tail pipe section) I'm going
to call and just talk to the guy and see what he says.

In any event, can anyone suggest a pretty decent muffler at a fair
price? I know 'you get what you pay for' and I'm not mad or anything,
I just figured I would look around before I order another one from
Blaufergnugen.

They say every man has a price at which he'll do anything. I'd
like to think it's the other way around: Every man has a line
he won't cross over -- no matter what the cost.
