the car in 1st, since trying to shift allowed the car to almost come
to a stop. (And this is with all 4 wheels trying to turn!) The pads
I've gotten before have always been kindof tight, but never like
this. Everything's fine now - it just took a few minutes of driving
to eat some of the pad off and open some room. >>

Steve,

Actually they should be tight when you first put them on. The brakes
are self adjusting and used to thinner pads so when you put new ones on it
takes them a little bit to adjust. Most manuals say pump the brakes a few
times but i've found them to be more stubborn once in a while. It's normal.
