5k whistling sound and a few rants

Hello there.
First, a question: Today I noticed a little performance increase -- but accompanying said increase was a
whistling sound (similar to a sound a person makes when he or she whistles with the tongue on the
alveola-- i.e. not with the lips alone as we would find with a bilabial, antiveolar whistle, see?)
Of course the whistle is higher pitched as speed increases. I can't hear it all of the time because my
lifters are so damn loud. Any ideas? Let me state that my engine is normally aspirated.

Second, a rehash, with an informal vote. My lifters are quieter than they were yesterday. That "Gunk
Valve Medic" stuff is somewhat effective, especially at $1.99 a pop. The original poster stated that it
could be purchased at "Pep Boys or the like." I'm fairly certain that It cannot be found at "the like" if
"the like" indicates NAPA or AutoZone. I know. I had to look fairly hard.

Third, a true rant. I am fairly insensitive, but I am certainly irritated by all of this mean-spirited
debate about a gasoline shut-off valve, towing with a German road machine, and a two-man feud gone
public. Be nice, for the love of God! This list has saved me hundreds of bucks and I am certainly
disturbed by the idea that some listers might drop because they are fed up. In fact, your cruelty could
be inversely proportional to the mass of my wallet. That, and you add a touch of Peugot to the list as the
class tapers off. No one likes Peugot. Don't be that guy...

Fourth, an anecdote. I spent a few weeks without my speedo. I had what I thought were pretty good speed
approximations based on the tachometer. When my speedo returned, calibrated, I thought I would see
how close my estimates were. Turns out I was going 86 MPH when I thought I was going 70. Oops. No
ticket though. Funny how the speedo repair drastically improved my 0-60 time.

Fifth, another anecdote, not to waste BW but... I drove around and to a lovely country picnic with the
woman yesterday. Had a lovely time-- sunroof open, and nothing broke!

Have a nice day, and no more fighting. Go pick on some BMW or Benz saps elsewhere.
