Turbo smoke tends to be blacker and come in a rush after startup -
there's less on the open road.

a) ALWAYS if you suspect a turbo - pull the turbo ==> intercooler hose
at the intercooler end and have a good feel in the intercooler and
also in the hose. They're always 'orribly slimey and oily - but
check for grit and filings. A small nut is _real_ bad luck - it's
   the impellor retaining nut. BTDT.

b) Change the valve stem oil seals.

If it still smokes and there are no combustion products getting to the
oil, suspect the turbo. They don't often make more than a couple of
thousand miles after they start to leak. Most frequent reason is
not allowing the turbo to cool properly after "spirited" driving.
