87 Coupe GT Starting Anomaly

When I turn the key in the ignition to start the car, occasionally 
there will be a second hesitation before the starter actually turns 
over.  All the lights will come on, like normal, but for some reason 
it seems to wait a second before deciding to start.  I has never NOT 
turned over for me, and once it does it starts strongly quickly 
so I doubt it's a battery problem.

Anyone with a similar problem or (even better) a solution?
