Re: traction control?

In a message dated 97-03-29 11:25:47 EST, you write:

<< how does the differential lock knob work on my 85 4kqs?...and when do i
use
 it? >>

It switches and ports vacumn which in turn
operates one servo on the top of the transaxle
and one on the side of the rear diff. On '84 4kq's
the rear servo is on the back of the trans and
a cable runs to the rear diff.

LEAVE IT ALONE !!!

You should never use it !!!
That knob is not ment for you !!!

All seriousness aside...

It is intended for very low traction conditions only.
Using it you "Lock" the front and rear wheels to
the same speed. With the front diff locked, at least
one front and one rear whell will have to be fed power..

When you lock the rear diff it isn't like limited slip. It's
actually NO slip both rear wheels are physically "locked"
together. Not a good thing to do when tryng to parallel park.
That's when it sounds like the rear axle is trying to
crawl through the glove box. Locking the rear diff should
be done only as a last resort before looking for a shovel
and people to push.
