q to the rescue (Again)

I was awakened at 6AM by a female voice asking for a ride.
No, it wasn't a dream, it was a nurse, who was referred to me
since I had volunteered last year to drive people to the hospital
if needed (doctors and nurses). I asked her to call around
a bit and get back to me if she couldn't find anyone (I was
dead tired).

7AM the phone rings again. No one available. Can I help?
Sure, give me about 1/2 hr. My wife threw on some coffee as
I threw on the studded Hakkas on the 84 4kq. Off we went.
I drove straight out my driveway BACKWARDS in over 2 feet of
snow. The top part where the plows had piled another 2 ft
took a bit to get over, but we were on our way.

After we picked up the nurse, we realized that the tricky part
was not the snow and ice on the ground, but the downed trees
everywhere, blocking lanes and entire roads, plus power lines
dangling everywhere, in some cases, holding up the trees.

Eventually we got to our destination, and she thanked us
profusely. Though it was a mild winter, the ability to
travel where few other vehicles could (even SUVs, in some
cases too tall to clear the trees) made up for all the q's
foibles, and I didn't even mind putting on the snows.
And no lady, it's not a Subaru, that was the guy in the
ditch :)

On to springtime, and here's hoping for a snowy, icy winter in
1998!
