in the late fifties i had a standard vanguard whose engine was a david brown
tractor engine. i lived in northern quebec at the time and the car was
unknown and exceedingly rare. when a valve broke i was able to get all the
engine perts from the david brown tractor dealer---at very good prices btw.
audi note- since the snow has almost disappeared here i have noticed a whine
that seems to come from the transmission. its most noticeable in 3rd or 4th
when under load. taking it out of gear and coasting eliminates the noise. if
i drive real fast i dont hear it. this is not an option as this is a cash
poor province and there are as many radars as streets (almost, it seems). on
the weekend my son was returning from vancouver and there were traps every
few miles. he blew it and got ticketed. can you believe that they have a
radar trap set up at the wee hours in the morning. on a four- 6 lane
mountain road with no cities or cross roads, no sharp turns, just long
climbs and descents. of course their trap is at the bottom of a long descent
where you can easily do 140kmph (~80mph) coasting in gear. traffic at this
time of night is about 5 cars per hour. what an intelligent use of tax dollars.
