Cruise Resurrected
A thanks to the forgotten person who recently posted about
fixing a cruise control. The suggestion was to check the cruise
cutoff switch which contacts the brake pedal.
I had a long trip to take last weekend - and my cruise wasn't
working. I remembered the post and took off the trim panel, then
shoved the switch DOWN and used the pedal to re-position it. (That's
the process outlined in the Bentley for adjustment...pull back on the
brake pedal to position the switch.)
VOILA!! Cruise control works again. I can only conclude the cutoff
switch had worked too far back in its fitting and was not contacting
the brake pedal. Sure was nice for those 6+ hours in the car!!
BTW - the Bentley says these switches are supposed to be inserted
only once, and that after pulling them back out they must be
replaced. They have a serrated exterior and are basically a friction
fit in their mounting hole. My experience suggests the Bentley may
be right. I have removed the switch once before, and it may be
prone to moving now.... However, as long as I only have to
re-position it now and then, I can live with it.
Cheers...
