Put less into your and more into your driving skill.
Several years ago I wanted all out street car and met many people in
motorsports just to relise that no matter how fast my car is and how many
Quattro club and BMW drving schools I attended , my skills were no match
to even low level club racers with one full season experience. If you are
not married and have no kids try SCCA racing. You can get into it for
less than a price of serious Audi project by purchasing a used car or
convert yours to rally car. You will be learning things that people who
don't race will never know. This however is self improvement, not
necesarily car improvement. If you do manage to create a monster you will
never learn to utilise it to its full on the street.
I hope you will make right decision.

                  Good luck

PS John Buffum drives same car as yours on the street. It is totally
stock.
