Well, I probably should have made this clearer in the original post, but 
the switch is actually broken. There is a spring mounted lever that 
operates the see-saw type contacts, but all of that assembly is 
*missing*. It must have fallen into the door, or something, because there 
is no sign of it now. I couldn't think of an easy way to jury-rig it, so 
I simply soldered a piece of wire-wrap wire across the contacts, making 
it next to impossible to shut it down if I had to. I also thought that 
the lights were working, because like you say, it would be very easy to 
change the bulbs while I was in there, but when I put it back together, 
they were burnt out... Oh well, I'm not gonna take it appart again just 
to fix the lights!
