Re: '91 200q turbo bypass valve in's and out's

In a message dated 97-04-15 06:49:35 EDT, you write:

<< Based upon how I see the valve operating, it seems like my connection is
correct, since under turbo pressure it would tend to keep the valve closed.
If you reverse the connections, turbo pressure would open the valve unless
there is enough positive pressure from the manifold/vacuum port to keep it
closed. Neither of us wants to lose boost. My connection also seems to
match the schematic in my Bentley manuals. But you never know.

So what's the net.wisdom out there? Is my turbo bypass valve installed
bass-ackwards, or is my buddy's wrong?

Referencing the "New 200 20vt Training Manual" there is a schematic of the
charge air system. Your car is the correct hook up. According to the
manual, the HIGH PRESSURE SIDE is 90 dgrees to the manifold port, the LOW
PRESSURE side is OPPOSITE the manifold port on the valve. I have heard that
it works in both configurations. The problem I had was that with Massive
boost hooked up properly, the valve tended to get pushed to the side and
leaked. With it hooked up HP opposite PORT, the transition to close took
some time, since the buildup of pressure to the small line was offset by
turbo boost pressure on the valve.
