Re: wheel bearing ??? Or steering system ?

Solomon--

My mechanic's test for my (bad) LF bearing was to put the me in the car on a lift and have me
run it up to about 55mph/88kph, then simultaneously disengage the clutch and turn the ignition
off (isolate any noises). He used a the naked ear (?) and mechanic's stethoscope at each
housing to gauge noise. This told him all he needed to know.

My 86 CGT exhibited very similar symptoms to yours, especially the noise when loading up a
bearing in turns. The install of a new LF bearing was just what the doctor ordered. Took much
of the vibration out of the front end as well. You don't say how many miles/kilometers are on
the car, but I'm guessing that there are enough on original bearings to make this a worthwhile
investigation, at least.
