Re: Wheel bearings
In a note dated 4/16/97 you write:
<<I was wondering how difficult it was to change a wheel bearing. Do I need
any special tools? I guess I should change both front or is that unnecessary?
Is this a
job for a mechanical newbie or should I let a mechanic do it?>>
You will need to remove the strut which isn't too tough. Once removed, you
can take the whole thang to a machine shop to have the bearing removed and
replaced. I did this when doing front suspension work. The rotor had
rust-welded itself to the hub and I trashed the wheel bearing removing the
rotor. My friendly local machine shop had the bearing in stock (they happen
to be a parts house too-called Carr Parts in Santa Cruz, CA) and did the R&R
while I waited. Total cost was less than about $70.00 part and labor from
what I recall. HTH
