Cruise control

     I recently bought a 1993 Audi 90S, I absolutly love the car, but I 
     have just discovered that the cruise control cuts out after a few 
     minutes of use and then won't reengage. Has any one had this problem 
     before?
     
     I have called my local Audi dealer and was told that the most likely 
     causes were either the switch ($168.64) or the controller ($258.51). I 
     am guessing that the switch is the actually switch located on the 
     stearing collem. I don't think that this is the problem, when the 
     cruise is on, the switch works fine. Is this something I can fix 
     myself or would it be best to take it in and let the professionals do 
     it?
     
     Any help would be great.
