Hydraulic success!

Upgraded the hydraulic system this morning - cleaned reservoir, replaced all
hoses (joy was in the bolt for the power steering hose starting first time
with no sealing ring falling off!) bomb, and of course new 7.1 Pentosin (1.2
quarts). Neat! No brake warning light - even with it hooked up (for the
first time since I bought it 9/95 - ok, I'm a little slow...) No leaks! I
can see the fluid level! Total time for job: 2.5 hours, only because I took
the opportunity to clean and rearrange the trunk.

Cost: 260.00 (bomb - Chris Semple), 30.00 (supply hose - Audi), 25.00 (power
steering hose - NAPA), 15.00 (PS return - previously replaced - Autozone),
26.00 (Pentosin). I still have to replace the brake to reservoir return hose
- 25.00. The hi pressure pump to bomb hose wasn't replaced as (1) it was
plastic and much less subject to interior deterioration, and (2) very
pricey... So for about 400.00 including shipping, taxes, etc the deed is
done. No concerns for 5-7 years!

I really recommend this if your car is in excess of 8 years old. Even with
the best of care these hoses will deteriorate internally over that amount of
time.

For those of you considering having your mechanic replace the bomb - Jack up
car, need:
a straight screwdriver (clamp for supply hose)
11mm wrench (for brake line)
17mm wrench (for hi pressure banjo fitting)
10mm socket (mounting nuts for front bracket)

Total time for bomb replacement - 25 minutes...

Only other tools needed for rest of job - 17 and 19mm sockets, adj wrench
(banjo fittings).
