Re: Perf. Figures for 90q20v/fun w. the list/H2O pump ?

Hey guys,
	It's been a while...missed everybody...although I hardly know anyone on
the list now - who_are_all_these people?!? I guess I'll know after I
read the 1400 messages in my inbox.....but to ease back in, I'll start
off light:

Tchhyeaah!! I'd be quite disappointed too! Hey, when I last posted,
wasn't I yapping about how Audis are generally slow in America and
finding it hard to believe BMWs were holding up Audis on the
Autobahn.....Well at least Audis are still slow! ;-) But come on, Sean,
abuse that piece of machinery...it's much more fun, yet no harder,
trying to break Audis than trying to baby 'em. I've found mine is hard
to break *and* equally hard to baby - she keeps begging me to
play...rough...day after day after day... :-)
I'd love to know exactly what I can get out of my C-GT....feels like a
mid- to low-7 time when I beat the s#!t out of my baby...is that
possible, M, with the Jacob's and K&N(I know-it doesn't help) mods
only??

I like to think I'm concerned about my baby since I treat her to
regular check-ups and cleanings and, most importantly, I make sure she
maintains a strict diet and rigorous exercise program to keep her
running at optimal performance. But as for being concerned about my
wallet while "popping my baby's clutch at 4000 rpm's," well, frankly I
don't see any reason since it's quite safe down in the little 'Audi'
compartment to the left of the steering column. ;-)

As for serious stuff, I think my '86 C-GT is in need of the infamous
and recently much heralded water pump and timing belt operation. From my
initial inspection done at night, she's dripping H2O from under the belt
cover. If that is the case and the water pump has gone to Audi-heaven,
what damage can be done by driving it while it is dripping/leaking
slowly? I drove around 100 miles today while the infamous digital water
temp gauge was blinking away at the extreme hot end thinking I was
simply low on coolant. Turns out I was a lot more than "simply low," the
expansion tank was shockingly empty. But as a precaution I had kept an
eye on the oil temp gauge and it never rose one green LED light(nowhere
near the red ones...). As long as oil temp stays in the green,
everything is fine, right...huh...please say yes! I fear pockets of air
in the coolant system causing.... :-(
Can I drive around like this or is the pump frozen shut and no longer
circulating coolant? If the pump is still spinning and it is O.K. to
drive, will the leaking increase or remain the same? TIA to all who
answer and offer me help!

Allan

p.s. Huw, the other half don't work. ;-)
