Today I'll add:

Altitude compensation really isn't necessary unless you're running at the
limit of the turbo.  The 3B (20V turbo, RR in UK) has an atmospheric pressure
sensor in addition to the internal MAP sensor in the ECU to prevent the K24
from over revving.  MC, MB, and earlier turbo motors had more "headroom" so
to speak with the K26.  

The manifold absolute pressure (MAP) and charge temperature is all that
really matters until you get close to the turbo's limit.
