A weak link in a high mileage 5 speed Audi is the clutch pilot
bearing, or more
commonly known as the Crank shaft pilot bearing, or the gearbox input
shaft
bearing. You know, the little bearing in the end of the crank shaft
that aligns the input shaft!

Well I managed to "Destroy" one of these, 3 weeks after a new clutch
was installed,
and the result, destroyed the clutch disc and gouged the flywheel!
Not to mention
marred the end of the input shaft!

Cause-probably damaged upon install of the gearbox, resulting from
"wrong" clutch alignment tool!

Live and learn!
