Funny 4000CSQ story
Hey all, about a year ans a half ago I had to pick my then girlfriend up in
Hartford, Connecticut. I am located in Wakefield RI. Some of you will also
remember that that time in New England was in the midst of one of the worst
winters ever. I was driving the 4000CS quattro up, so I felt somewhat
bulletproof. One a two lane highway, traffic was crusing at about 40 or so,
and the Q was getting squirly, as I had no tires in the rear and the snow was
getting slick and packed. So, I tried something. I pulled into the passing
lane, where no one had been for 3 hours. Boom. It was like hitting pavement
after hydroplaning. THe car took off. I was able to average 62 mph there
after that. Unfortuanatly, traveling close to 80 once the snow had stopped,
I hit glaze ice a mile from my home. The rear tires had not grown tread, and
I spun 5 times before taking out a 45 mph speedlimit sign sideways and
landing in a ditch. Damage? I have to replace the fender, which I still
haven't done, but I have it! My cop friend in the Police Blazer showed up,
got out, and started laughing! Seems he remembered me talking about superior
traction in snow. I worked in a coffee shop at the time. Anyway, We hooked
up a chain and he began to pull, and with my Diffs locked, we both headed out
of the ditch with 8 rooster tails of snow spirting all over the place. Was
pretty neat to see both cars sideways. I had a nasty vibration the next day.
Upset, I ran to my mechanics. He looked the car all over then took a rubber
mallet and hit the front wheels. Ice and snow poured out. Cause of
vibration. Anyways, just felt like telling a story....you can all laugh now!
