Audi workshop manuals

Has anyone purchased (through Dyment) the official Audi
factory manuals? They wanted $375 for an S4 set of manuals.
My experience with factory manuals has been mixed. Some seem
to have a special tool for every operation so they make everything
seem more complicated than it needs to be. Then again some of
the tools really are necessary. Factory manuals don't typically
tell when you need the tool to do the job, vs. use the tool to make the
job easier.

I wouldn't even consider the factory set except that Bentley wants
$265 for their three volume set for the 92-97 100/A6/S4/S6 models.
The Bentley manuals are complete but rather pithy with the
written descriptions. I remember one laughable moment
trying to find the fuel filter on a Jetta. From my GTI
experience I expected it under the hood somewhere. The
manual had a picture of it, but no clue where it was actually
located on the car. Until I broadened my search starting
from the fuel tank, I couldn't find it.

One positive note on the Bentley manuals, Carlsen Audi (415-856-6300)
told me they would sell the Bentley manual with the 'internet' discount
for ~$210.
