Re: 80mph Speedo

>When my ur-q was imported in 82' it was given an 80mph speedo. needless to
say I am often exceeding that mark and would like to know how fast I am
going. Would I have to replace the entire mechanism to get the standard (120
mph I think it is) speedo? Or, could I just replace the face plate and the
gear located in the transmission?

I think it's easier just to replace the entire unit. I bought one from
Shokan for $75 a couple of years ago. Then I got another in a coupe I
bought for parts. I'll sell it but you may still have to change the gear, I
don't know. Your ur-q and my coupe probably have different tire diameters
and different transmissions (well, duh!), but maybe the speedo assembly is
the same.

If you change your faceplate and transmission gear, your odometer will read
incorrectly. It would have to be a gear in the speedo itself for that
theory to work.
