The vagarities of British insurance have annoyed me more than usual this week.

I'm just renewing the insurance on the ur-quattro. 1988, TORSEN, 138k miles,
etc. - a notional value (based on some daft sod's spreadsheet) of around
GBP3k. OK - so it's nine years old and it's done a mile or two. But if you
look in the Club's Newsletter this month, there's a TORSEN for sale (albeit
with 1/3rd of the mileage) for GBP13500.

I've been asked to quote a "value" for my car, and I've quoted GBP9500. But
the insurance company (London & Edinburgh, in my case) reserves the right to
pay _their_ opinion of the value.

There _are_ so-called "agreed value" policies available. They're actually a
lot cheaper than my current insurance, and they offer a discount to UK quattro
Owners Club members. But they limit annual mileage to 7500.

Here I am, trying to be honest and tell an insurance company what the risk
_really_ _is_, and they don't want to listen. And insurance, which is
supposed to eliminate risks, does exactly the opposite.
