Saab's 2-stroke is a DKW?

Hi all,

Ok, since this thread won't die, I've overcome my natural laziness and got
out my reference books. 'Cars of the Fifties and Sixties' by Michael
Sedgwick, 1983, says on page 102 beside a picture of a nice Saab 92 of 1950
vintage:

'The original Saab 92 of 1950 is still a triumph of perfect aerodynamics at
the cost of other considerations, which can be expected of one of the most
important aero manufacturers in Europe. The engine is an improved version
of the DKW: a 764cc water-cooled 2-stroke twin driving the front wheels,
all-synchro 3-speed transmission with freewheel, rack and pinion steering
and hydraulic brakes.'

The esteemed Mr. Sedgwick goes on for a bit about the Saab's qualities, but
I'm sure you get the picture. On page 41, the Saab is also mentioned as a
mechanical descendant of the DKW, as are Goliath and Lloyd, IFA, Aero Minor
and Eucort. Anyone still following this? (OK, I'd never heard of the
Eucort- from Spain, apparently- either)

OK, that's this one settled...:-)

Have a nice weekend y'all- I'm sure I will!

Tom
