Yeah, I try to avoid the dealer now for the same problem... :-)
(Ack! I should be careful lest the Audi gods strike down my own 93 90CS
with $5000 oil leaks...)

As for your rad fan, it should have three speeds. Low speed should
be engaged continuously whenever the A/C is switched on. Medium
doesn't kick in until the temp gauge gets over about 2/3 or so.
I've only ever witnessed high (747 takeoff mode) once....

these early (92-93) V6s were notorious for leaking oil from every seal:
head gaskets, vally pan, front & rear seals.... The later 93s were
supposed to be much better... So it doesn't really shock me to hear
these stories.

They also were notorious for oil pumps with porous castings, which
caused them to fail during cold starts (pressure >5 bar)... I know.
Mine did.... Fortunately, the car will still under warantee, so I got
a new pump and all front-end seals courtesty of AoA...
