Re: Avus model and Questions, and producition....
In a message dated 97-04-28 05:06:06 EDT, you write:
<< . What are the facts and figures on it...audi of brazil has it going
340kph and 0-100kph in 3 seconds....is that true??
3. The Avus was apparently a set of ten, at least that is what the guy
from the sharper image told me...he seemed to knowa bit about it and told
me that there is a woman living by that store that owns two of the
ten...they were let go by audi at 1 mil a piece...i am beginning to think
that it is true since there was a thread a few days ago stating that hte
price was a mil and yadda, yadda, yadda..hehe...
anyway, if someone could helpo me with these things i would a[preciate
it...thanks

As for the acceleration figures, I am ALMOST positive that the car never ran.
Hanger queen only. I believe, however, that Audi fitted a v8 to a test mule
and it was pretty quick. Anyway, I sincerely DOUBT that one lady has 2
Avus's. There may or may not have been any production on these. My
understanding was 20, at 1 mil a piece, however, that was dated information
that was released by Audi just after the debut at the Tokyo show in 1991.
Audi may have changed their plans, and not produced at all since the W-12
seemed to be more of a problem to get running than audi had anticipated.
Audi predicted in the vicitiy of 550-600 hp in Avus form. That would have
put the car over 200 easily (6 speed S4 tranny.) and 0-62 probably would have
come very quickly....let's use the EB110 as an example, similar
power/weight/traction, and it gets there around 4 secs. It would be there
sooner, but there is TOO much grip, and the engine bogs. This wouldn't be a
problem on the Avus (the EB110 is quad-turbocharged, therefor boost isn't
kicking till over 2500) but since it doesn't have any more power I doubt it
would be as fast or faster. My understanding of the W-12 was not what you
described, but it would be hard for me to explain.
