Re: removal of seats?

>How do you remove the front seats on a 87 4000cs quattro. They are heated,
but you just unclip the harness. how do you get the seats off the rails.
Unclip the heaters, unclip the seat belt sensor, and remove the two pieces
of plastic trim covering the seat tracks (access from rear seat foot area).
Then look at the center guide/position locking rail. It slides through a
fixture attached the the car's floor pan and is held in place by a pin that
is moved out by the seat adjustment lever. In the very front of this rail
is a little nut and bolt that acts as a rear travel stop. Remove the nut
and bolt, the seat will slide completely out of the center rail fixture to
the rear. The glides in the two side rails just keep on going and pop out
to the rear.
Once you've done this a couple of times it takes about 3 minutes. Getting
the seat back in requires a little patience and careful alignment of the two
side glide pieces into the side tracks, then pulling out the adjustment
lever to clear the pin out of the way of the center rail.
