Re: New Radio Kills Dash Lights!
In a message dated 97-04-29 12:29:48 EDT, you write:
<< I installed a new radio into my '86 4000 over the weekend. I was able to
identify the speaker wires fairly easily, but I had some trouble with the
power wire. There was a 4 wire connector to the back of the radio. The
colors were brown, red, grey/blue, and white. I got current from the red,
and ground from the grey/blue. The white was related to the chime. I don't
know about the brown. Anyway, now I have no dash lights.
Help!

Charles,
The gray/blue is your dash lights wiring. You may have ... uh... let's
say...uh...destroyed your light dimmer switch.
The red is +12vdc, the brown is ground, the white is antenna power for the
amplified antenna, and the gray/blue WAS the dash lights. The dimmer has a
special resistive foil that can burn out in a "flash" (dual meaning here, for
sure). See definition for "$$" in archives... Unfortunately, the power is
unswitched, unfused, DIRECT from "line 30", unadulterated battery
power...ugh...
