Re[2]: $185 oil change & labor charges

<<OBVIOUSLY, SINCE THEY WERE IN THERE TO CHANGE THE SEAL FOR THE OIL LEAK IT
MADE PERFECT SENSE TO CHANGE THE TIMING BELT, WATER PUMP, AND ONE OF THE
OTHER BELTS (ALTERNATOR OR COMPRESSOR). PLUS YOU GOT THE OIL CHANGE AS
WELL!>>>>

I had my timing belt changed on my '85 CGT at the same time that the seal on
the front of the top timing pully was replaced since it was leaking pretty
heavy at the now defunct Audi dealer in Ft. Myers, FL. The estimate
reflected seperate labor charges for both tasks, my father and I argued that
no way we are paying double labor, since both jobs require the same
proceedure that can be done at the same time. Audi guy said they have to
charge the labor that is in the book, even thought they will not be spending
all that time on the car. SO, we told him to do the timing belt only and
that we would be back tomarrow to have the oil leak taken care of, which is
what we did. The bill was no higher, but the mechanics did have to take my
car apart twice doing the exact same removal process to get at the timing
pully 2 days in a row! I did not save any $, but the dealer didn't ripp me
off so bad as a result!

Dealers, what is their problem?
