  I say "baloney," unless Audi can produce a court document proving
otherwise.  IBM tried to copyright the style used in its company logo many
years ago, and the courts shot them down. 

  Sure, you can't use the name "IBM" with the blue, horizontally cut
letters without permission.   IBM can't do a thing, though, if you wanted
make a decal with the "q" in the same style as their logo.
