Dan,
I got completely out of a 6 point speeding ticket a couple of years ago
by going to court the first time and pleading innocent which meant I had
to make another court date (and go back a second time) and go before a
judge where the officer who issued the ticket was required to prove my
guilt. The officer didn't show up for the second appearance and they
dismissed all charges!!! 

I don't know if the laws where you live are the same as here (Littleton,
Colorado) but I have always heard that you can get out of alot of
speeding/traffic tickets by being lucky. I think alot of the courts
don't even pay the officers to appear at a traffic hearing so they
aren't too motivated to show up. 

I also think that they are in the revenue generation business so
spending an afternoon at a court hearing is not as productive as writing
tickets!!
