Theoretically, 0.5 volts = 14.7:1 air/fuel ratio.   Higher than 0.5 = 
rich and lower = lean.    That is _ALL_ you can take from an O2 sensor.   
They are not accurate outside of a 10% range around stoich (0.5v)   In 
practise though, you can use it to get a pretty good idea of how your 
engine is running.   The turbo Quattro with EFI runs best at about 
0.8v.   Most NA engines will make best tork at about 0.7v.

That will work.   You'll also find after a while, that knowing the 
mixture is a nice piece of data to have.   I don't drive without it.
