Re: 5kcdtq questions
Jon, Jon, Jon,
You poor guy (or you will be!)
I assume your a fellow canuck ( as we have the "CD"'s, the U.S. has
the "CS"'s), welcome to a fun new hobby!
1) Growl: probably a wheel bearing, get a knowledgeable mechanic to
evalute it & replace. Quite easy, no too much money (relatively). You
could probably replace it yourself if you have replaced bearings on a
front driver before. Unfortunately, you will probably find other
parts that should be replaced while your in there.
2) Propeller shaft: One of the CV joints or the universal is probably
shot.... Your options are new (from dealer: lots of $$$), rebuilt
(Blaufernugan (SP?) for example has them) or replace the component
that is worn out. (CV joints are available from IPC, the universal
should be available from a good driveline shop, the carrier, well, you
have to modify a similar unit, ie BMW, Mercedes, etc). This is fairly
easy to fix, but hard to source the parts. Be sure to realign your
propeller shaft when reinstalling....
3) Power Steering : Again have a good mechanic evaluate the noise.
Another indication of the system's general health is to look at the
fluid & fluid screen (in the tank). If there is lots of crud, you will
have a problem sooner or later. Most of this system costs lots of
$$$. The pump is easy to change, the rack is more involved...
Good luck, HTH
