yes, but they never won the championship supplying both chassis and engines.

the bmw deal is for 1999 and beyond according to the scuttlebut. bmw have refused to supply engines without 2 years to "get up to speed", although they have had a v10 up and running last year. benetton have also been rumoured (in autosport) to have the same deal with mecachrome (aka renault) engines. the real question is whether williams/benneton (audi) want to start *paying* for their engines which they will now *have* to do. the renault engines have been free to them in the past. so, for williams as soon as the bmw is ready and free, they'll jump ship...
