RE: oil temp

Glen-

My '83 5kt has the oil temp gauge you speak so fondly of--- yes, the little wire
with the little rubber bootie thingy down by the oil filters is the temp sender
for this. I don't know if the Ur-Q mount is the same, though.

Really?! I didn't know the 5kt had an oil temp sender, I'm not very familiar
with any of the FWD Audis.
Where is the actual oil temp sender located? In the oil filter block?
Is the 83 5kt oil temp gauge analogue or digital/bar graph like the =>85 ur-q/4kq?

Where did you mount the oil pressure sender? Which gauge did you use? I like
the looks of the VDO gauges, and would like to keep with the factory look as
well.

I mounted the oil pressure sender in the block where the factory idiot light/buzzer sender
was mounted, down low on the driver's side of the engine block. Gauge is a 80 PSI VDO
that exactly matches the style and colours of the factory 85 ur-q dash gauges which are
also VDO. I think VDO calls it the 'Cockpit Series'. I also installed VDO water temp,
EGT and 30 PSI boost 'Cockpit Series' gauges. All mounted under the glove box using
the glove box door attachment screws as I refuse to drill any holes in the ur-q.
(oil press gauge might be 100 PSI now that I think about it......)

You could "T" off of the block to get pressure for both the gauge sender and the
dummy light.

I've thought of doing this and actually already bought the parts. I am just a bit reluctant
due to the fact that there would be a bit of mass hanging off the single nipple threaded
into the block what with the T and the two senders and I'm a bit paranoid of stress due
to vibration and the possibility of metal fatigue and the whole mess snapping off over time
and blowing all the oil out, possibly toasting the engine or even having a nasty fire and
losing the whole car.

What has me really curious is why I get no idiot light/buzzer warning with no sender
connected........

Thanks for the 5kt info!
