Actually, this is a common failure in the 90/100/200 of the same era...

What has happened is the pot-metal gear that goes between the lock 
cylinder and the latch has broken. There is a very detailed procedure in 
the archives. If you can't find it, I'm sure someone can post it for you.
Be prepared to spend some money at the dealer. Be prepared to spend some 
time working blind behind the door panel.
