my autocross story

I ran at the local WSCC (Westchester Sports Car Club) autocross on
Sunday. It was interesting. Cars ranging from my 84 4kq, lots
of GLI and GTIs, a pair of 911s (one with 1400 miles!),
and the highlight, a 240Z chopped off into a convertible,
with a Jaguar rear end and a 302 V8 engine...

I ran in H stock as a novice, and let me tell you, it's scary being out
there in any of the classes!

My first two runs were off course, and times were in the high 70s (seconds).

My third run was on course, 68 secs.
The fourth was on course, 66 secs, and I had a last "unofficial"
run at 65 secs.

The fastest car for the day was a tricked Miata at about 52-3 secs,
running par with the 97 911.

Overall, I finished 5th out of 9 in Novice class (won by a Fiat Spyder)
and 4th out of 6 in H stock. I'm sure the 4kq is capable of better,
but it was my first time. I often found myself oversteering (esp. in
the slalom) and relied on the extra traction to make it around the cones
(read: 4 wheel slides!) but that probably cost me time.

Looking forward to doing it again - next time is 6/29, but that coincides
with Mt. Washington, so...
