RE: Followup: Mechanic wants $700 to replace throw-out bearing (?)
I would definetly have the clutch changed as well. Since you have to remove the
tranny and this is what costs sooo much, you might as well spend the extra $150+
for the clutch parts and have the whole thing changed. Not sure about the
prices for the other items, but go for the clutch job!

Subject: Followup: Mechanic wants $700 to replace throw-out bearing (?)
I took my 85 4000S Quattro to a shop to have the clutch noise
looked at. They agreed with my assessment that it was the
throw-out bearing, and say that since it is basically a clutch
job it will run $700 parts and labor.
So, is this a reasonable amount for the bearing job?
How do these prices sound overall? As they were recommended by
someone on the list, I expect their work is decent anyway!
