this afternoon i had a pretty exciting encounter with a red boxster!

i was driving up 405 northbound and passed a red boxster that was
cruising. i pointed it out to my wife who decided to wave and smile at
the operator. (as an aside, the cutting board rear spoiler is hideous
looking and the car looks one or two sizes too big. it is a big car when
you compare it to a SLK, Z3 or miata)

since we were carpooling i was able to edge ahead 1/2 mile or so. we came
up to factoria where i took the exit to go west on I90. recall that i've
done some pretty high speed sweeps through there but this time i had to
take it easy because of my passenger.. ;-)

i was able to take the inside lane since we were carpool. in my rear view
mirror i could see the boxster approaching very rapidly. i knew what he
was up to, so i started to accelerate when i reached the turn. he tried
to pass me on the outside but i just went faster and faster while i was in
the turn. HE WAS NOT ABLE TO PASS!!!!

and hell, i was not even trying because i had a passenger who would have
probably beat the s*** out of me for any big time hooliganism. i was
doing 75 or so when the turn straightened out and there was traffic ahead
so i lifted off. only then was he able to blast past at 80+ and rapidly
about to make contact with a minivan going 35 or so.

i sat back and watched him demonstrate the power of the car's braking. he
realized that he did not have enough space and decided to abort the
slowing down and instead cut in front of me and tore around the minivan.
i anticpated as much and gave him plenty of room. behind me some idiots
in a galant decided to give chase and also cut me off with far less room
to spare.

he must have been pretty pissed off :) because when we reached I90 proper
he took off like a demon weaving in and out of traffic, disappearing at
high speed. prior to that he was just cruising 60-65 on I405.

man, those 17X8 wheels and P7000s were terrific. going 75 round that turn
it did not even feel the least bit stressed.. the suspension had not even
loaded up to the point where it got chatty. i wished i could have blown
him away because there was *so* much in reserve.. i wasn't even in a power
gear, i was in top gear! no doubt i had the inside line but this guy
obviously thought he could show me a thing or two... instead the old war
horse kept its glory. my passenger was not even fully aware of what had
just taken place! that was how arrogantly capable the car was.
