Therefore: A SLIGHT CHANGE IN ALIGNMENT IS ALRIGHT AS LONG AS IT IS
RE-ALIGNED AT THE TIME OF BELT INSTALLATION. I assume you cannot spin
the camshaft around and around though, due to valves hitting the tops of
pistons. The same would be true for the crankshaft...slight rotational
movement is alright, but large degrees of rotation will result in
pistons hitting valves, and exact re-alignment is a must, correct?

No, you're correct, but I was not sure if it is possible for the
lifters to "tick" (or "rattle" if you're in England) and thus need
adjusting or replacing or whatever. I have heard of sticky lifters and
quite often have thought mine were sticking(thus the "ticking"), so I
thought there might be something I could do.

What about the gunk behind the timing belt covers that will be hard to
remove when all back together? I would assume spot cleaning with a
high-pressure hose is not advised, and simple elbow grease using rags,
brushes, and whatever is!
