I believe you have an '86 5K, correct? If so, do you know how to
change(or clean if K&N) the air filter? Because if you do, you must go
about the same process so that you are able to get UNDERNEATH the mass
air-flow meter with a spray can. Remove the airbox cover and get it
completely up and away from the bottom half ...I know, if you have the
same set-up, it's TOUGH! Remove the air filter so it doesn't get soaked
and place a rag down on top of the opened airbox(I soaked the living
daylights out of it). Using fuel-injector/air-intake cleaning spray,
begin to spray the mass air-flow meter and fuel distributor from
underneath hitting everything that moves, and anything else that looks
like it may have a part in your problem(I am not actually sure of what
causes the problem, so I unscrewed the small plastic cube-shaped
electronic piece attached to the side of the fuel distributor(it's
pressurized, so be careful if you do so too) and sprayed away there
too.... Basically spray and clean any- and every-thing in the area of
the fuel distributor and you should have a properly operating trip
computer again. This worked for me(mine now works perfectly again), so I
hope it helps!
