Wheel ReFurbishing
Folks:
Took the extra set of 15 in alloys (Original UrQ) and started working them over
in anticipation of new rubber. They are thoroughly beat up.
This weekend I was able to remove all the old finish with a lot of paint remover
and elbow work. Surprisingly the bare metal under the finish is quite rough.
Two questions:
1. What kind of paint/finish to use? I was looking at the possiblity of a two
aprt epoxy paint that is being used to refinish bath fixtures. Claims to flow to
a very smooth finish. One worry is that it is not heat resistant. I think this
means that your not supposed to use it on a stove. How hot will the wheels get
anyway?
2. Original factory color is a faint metalic bronze. The manufacturer claims
that the epoxy will accept any tint. Any ideas?
Any comments from my fellow Q listers is appreciated.
