Simple replacement.

Checking the fiche - I oversimplified. Well, I was wrong.

On the ur-quattro, cars to 85-E-901500 had non-smoked taillight lenses. From
85-F-900001 to 85-F-902000 they had "Coupe GT-style" smoked lenses with single
bulbs. The double twin-filament (actually 4 x 5w/21w) came in with 85-G-900001.

The part numbers for the latter are 855 945 217C (left) and 855 945 218C
(right), the bulb holders are 855 945 221A and 855 945 945 222A respectively.

It's a "drop-in" replacement. The official sealing cord is AKD 497 010 04
(what did I say about non-numeric Audi part numbers a day or two ago?) but I'm
led to believe that Porsche (of all people) sell it a lot cheaper and in
shorter lengths than 10metres.

And your "twin light" Coupe GT? Again, according to the Coupe GT microfiche,
twin-filament bulbs _WERE_ fitted to a small number of cars after 85-G-108536.

Same part numbers as the ur-quattro. One lives and learns.
