1983 UrQ ignition HELP

As a follow up to my earlier question about the 1.5 volt ICU
(not ECU) test outlined in the intro service documents, do I
have to have the engine exactly at TDC for the coil to spark?
The introductory service documents are a little unclear on
this. Any thoughts? Oh, to summarize, car stalled, won't
start, ECU good, power and ground good to both ECU and
ICU, coil and wires good, general wiring OK. Couldn't get the
ICU to cause the coil to spark but I stupidly didn't have the
engine at TDC, does this matter? Someone must know. Any
thoughts appreciated.
