Just got back from Stapleton (report to follow), you kids have been busy, my
box is full after only 5 days gone. Here are some highlights of the subjects
as I recall them, excuse the briefness, but happy to let any die or get more
nerdy.
* "Is this an ad, this looks like an ad" - direct quote, even if one doesn't
work for Imparts... Double standard. Private post more appropriate here,
btdt.
* Roll centers for 44 chassis cars. Out of respect for Rules of the Road, I
might direct all interested parties to ck The Quattro List Archives of
04-06-95 at 0808:09 EDT. Some of the actual numbers are off, but the comparo
is OK.
* "IC does what?"... The Brits and the Colonies have a different way of
saying the same thing. BTDT. Sievers and Arman are both correct, best
interpreted by Dr. Myers, Esq.
* IA vs TAP. Execution the same, some timing advance in the TAP chip, stock
in the IA box. The altitude has more to do with the equation than Chad's
post might indicate. The turbo is getting pretty hot to compensate for the
Stapleton altitude, so I would expect the exact results Chad got. ANY
ignition advance beyond stock won't suit an altitude compensating audi
computer with a stock k26 turbo. A better eval would be at sea level, or
with a more efficient turbo/IC
* QLCC vs spring. Spring pressure will always be faster than a WGFV, since
it is static (constant) vs dynamic (boost) pressure. Graydon should see a
little increase in using the Charlie spring, since it maintains 1.9bar
clamping regardless of WGFV or computer interuption. Disconnecting the WGFV
will yield no increase or decrease in absolute boost pressure, btdt. The adj
wastegate spring can be used on a stock spring as well to increase or tailor
the QLCC boost parameters.
* High pressure and air boxes. Nice to see Mr. Bell back on the list (and
in person last week, great empirical test of stock vs Schrick cam plotted),
and he is quite right on getting air TO the box. Careful on the home brew
mods, they can hurt easier than help most of the time. A mandatory read
would be Probst before any mod.
* Jeff Goggin's suggestion to leave the tank a little "less than full" is
prolly better than any fiche "interpreted" mod (and audis own interpretation
changes 83 to 91 Urq fiches) for reducing body roll.
Sorry if I missed anything. Good to be back. Stapleton report will follow
shortly.
