30VA4 - gear ratios

Finished reading autoweek review of 30V A4. They explain their doubts as
to Audi claim of a 7.1 sec. 0-60 based on gearing: the A4 uses 3.7:1 (vs
2.93:1 of 328i) and very tall gearbox ratios (OD on both 4th and 5th).

I believe my 90csq probably shares the same gearing/ratio philosophy as
the A4 (I've driven both, they feel very much alike).  Since we are all
looking for low-end performance (aren't we?), how difficult/expensive
would it be to change the gearbox ratios?  Seems like I would get more
satisfaction from that than increasing horsepower w/ little low-end
torque improvement. 

Then again, with the proverbial $10000 gearbox, maybe cheaper to
supercharge.
