Suspension for 1989 Audi 100 Avant
I need help!
My Avant (120k miles) frightens me when going around corners, so I am going
to treat it to some new suspension bits this summer. I would love to get
Steadiric's kit, but there is no chance of getting financial approval from
the boss!
Firstly, I will replace top strut mounts and antiroll bar (sway bar)
mounting bushes. I will also check front bearings and all balljoints. I
will probably replace rear bearings also as they are so cheap (this might
get rid of a slight droning noise).
What about subframe bushes - what is the typical life for these? Are there
any other bits I should consider replacing?
I would like to leave the springs alone (as this is the family car) and just
replace the shocks. However, I am mindful of Steadiric's advice that the
ride height should be left alone. If I get Boge Turbogas shocks (they
worked very well in the 80q last year) won't they RAISE the ride height as
they have a spring action all of their own which the hydraulic shocks
(probably the originals) don't have?
What can I do about this - lowered springs?
Am I talking rubbish??
