The next thing on the list...
1. After a full hydraulic system rebuild (hoses, bomb, pump), I noticed a
1/4" drop in the level over the last month... One quick view with a
flashlight showed me the torn boot and lake inside on the rack. Sigh... I
was waiting for this. The last one I did (several times) was on a '79 5KS,
which had a skosh more room behind the head and no wastgate. So,
a. Does the rack still come out the top on my 87 5KStq? Anyone kind
enough to post a procedure?
b. Last year we discussed stainless steel sleeved rebuilds - someone
still have a source?
c. Without the special tools or access to a lathe, don't urge me to
rebuild myself. BTDT twice. That deep internal seal blew out both times...
2. I continually chase down minor vacuum leaks (there are down sides to
having a great vac/boost guage - helps me find things I'd rather not look
for). Playing with the carb cleaner found this one on the back right side of
the air box - beneath the decel valve and piping. I fear it may end up being
the main cork sealing gasket - is this worth mucking with to try to seal, or
should I just figger on replacing it? Anyone else have to fool around back
there before I have to educate myself on air box removal?
